Meet the OSSIE Team!

Where to Look for Answers

Here is the recommended order for finding answers to your questions:

  1. Consult the FAQ (coming soon) and User Guide
  2. Search the listserv archives to see if someone has already answered the question.
  3. Mail the appropriate listserv for an answer. We can arrange to meet you on our IRC channel if realtime assistance is needed
  4. Go to the IRC channel. OSSIE has no full time technical support but if someone can meet you on the channel, it is a convenient way to address problems in full time.

We will do our best to answer your questions by one of these three methods.

Mailing Lists

There is a listserv for OSSIE questions and discussion. To subscribe to the list send an email to listserv@listserv.vt.edu with the following in the body of the email. The subject line doesn't matter.

subscribe ossie-discuss Firstname Lastname

For issues focused mainly on the trunk branch in subversion use the ossie-dev list.

subscribe ossie-dev Firstname Lastname

If you are only interested in OSSIE related announcements, sign up for the OSSIE list. If you are already signed up for ossie-discuss, you will also receive email sent to the announce list. To subscribe to the list send an email to listserv@listserv.vt.edu with the following in the body of the email. The subject line doesn't matter.

subscribe ossie Firstname Lastname

Finally, if you are interested in keeping track of ticket changes, without checking the timeline all the time, subscribe to ossie-tickets. This list is only for automatically generated ticket emails from the trac system. All comments should be directed to the ticket via the website or the ossie-discuss list. You should have your email client filter emails to this list in to a separate folder. To subscribe to the list send an email to listserv@listserv.vt.edu with the following in the body of the email. The subject line doesn't matter.

IRC: The Realtime Cyberspace Way

For real time assistance, the best way to communicate is via IRC. It is recommended that you check the listserv archives and, if needed, mail the appropriate listserv first to find an answer or arrange to meet someone on IRC.

We have an IRC channel named #ossie at irc.freenode.net.

Chatzilla is a good irc client for Windows users to start with. The other windows IRC clients eventually require registration. Chatzilla is a good way to find out how effectively we support OSSIE over IRC. Most Linux distributions supply one or more IRC clients such as X-Chat, Pidgin, or Kopete.
